The Milton and Sylvia Kaplan Human Services Scholarship Fund was established in 2005 by Milton M. Kaplan, a volunteer and member of the New Visions Board of Directors for more than 30 years. The Scholarship fund was created to provide an incentive for New Visions employees who may be interested in furthering their career.
Some of the criteria of the Milton and Sylvia Kaplan Human Services Scholarship Fund are as follows:
• Candidates must be considered New Visions employees “in good standing.”
• Evidence of prior academic achievement will be required (e.g., high school transcript, college transcript).
• The amount of the scholarship awarded will be $500 or other such amount as may be appropriate and commensurate with tuition for a single course.
• Candidates will be offered the opportunity to apply for the scholarship on an annual basis.
• Candidates will be asked to outline in some detail their educational goals and expenses and to demonstrate their admission to a generally recognized (i.e., accredited) educational program.
• The recipient of the fund each year will be selected by the Executive Director of New Visions or by a person or committee designated by him/her. All final selections will be approved by the New Visions Board of Directors.
• Proof of successful course completion will be required (Grade “B” or better for graduate work and grade “C” or better for undergraduate work). Also, a copy of the respective tuition bill or paid receipt is required.
• The Scholarship Fund is restricted for use toward tuition only and may not be used to offset other expenses associated with the academic experience.
